HPE Gen10 Servers Are End-of-Life – Here's What That Means for You

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has officially phased out both its Gen10 and Gen10 Plus server lines. The standard Gen10 family led the transition, and HPE has since issued End of Life (EOL) process notifications covering the Gen10 Plus family as well. As a result, these systems are moving away from standard OEM firmware releases, security updates, and factory support.

Gen10 and Gen10 Plus hardware remains widely deployed, highly reliable, and more than capable of handling modern enterprise workloads. But the end of the official OEM lifecycle introduces new support challenges for IT teams that rely on these systems for core business operations.

What Does "End of Life" Mean?

When a server line reaches EOL status with the manufacturer, the OEM begins phasing out or entirely stopping:

  • Firmware and BIOS updates
  • Routine security patches
  • Active OEM hardware support agreements
  • Replacement parts through official OEM channels

This doesn't mean your servers will suddenly become obsolete or stop functioning. It does signal increased operational risk and a drop in direct factory support, a critical factor for organizations that demand high availability or must comply with strict data security and compliance protocols.

The HPE Gen10 and Gen10 Plus EOL Timeline

HPE has rolled out the phaseout in stages through official Product Change Notifications (PCNs). Here are the key milestones so far, plus the projected support windows that follow:

HPE Gen10 & Gen10 Plus: Key Lifecycle Milestones 2024 2025 2026 2029 2030 May 2024 Gen10 EOL announced Oct 31, 2024 Gen10 last order date Mar 31, 2025 DL360/DL380 Gen10 final orders 2024 - 2025 Gen10 Plus EOL process dates (PCN) ~Oct 2029 Gen10 OEM support window closes* 2029 - 2030 Gen10 Plus OEM support closes* *Projected. HPE support contracts are typically renewable for up to 5 years after the last order date and vary by model.

The quick version: HPE marked the standard Gen10 line EOL in 2024 after a seven year run, its longest server lifecycle ever, with final orders closing on October 31, 2024 (extended to March 31, 2025 for the DL360 and DL380 Gen10). The Gen10 Plus family followed under a separate PCN, with EOL process dates phased across 2024 and 2025 for models including the DL345, DL360, DL365, and DL380 Gen10 Plus, plus the DL325 and DL385 Gen10 Plus V2.

Which HPE Gen10 & Gen10 Plus Models Are Impacted?

The lifecycle phaseout impacts several of the most dependable workhorses in modern data centers. Key HPE ProLiant models affected by the EOL transition include:

  • HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 & DL360 Gen10 Plus
  • HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 & DL380 Gen10 Plus
  • HPE ProLiant DL325 & DL385 Gen10 Plus (V2)
  • HPE ProLiant DL345 & DL365 Gen10 Plus
  • HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen10 & ML110 Gen10
  • HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10

If you are currently relying on refurbished or existing Gen10 or Gen10 Plus infrastructure, you are far from alone, and you still have excellent, cost-effective options to protect your hardware investment.

Upcoming EOL Dates to Watch

EOL is only the first milestone in HPE's lifecycle process. The dates that matter most for planning are the ones still ahead:

  • Gen10 end of OEM support (projected around October 2029). HPE typically honors and renews support contracts for up to five years after the last order date. For Gen10, that points to a support runway ending around late 2029.
  • Gen10 Plus end of OEM support (projected 2029 to 2030). Because Gen10 Plus EOL process dates were phased across 2024 and 2025, well-configured systems with active support contracts can generally remain under HPE coverage into 2029 or 2030 depending on the model.
  • Gen11 remains fully supported, for now. HPE has not announced EOL dates for the Gen11 family. Historically, HPE announces EOL two to three years after the next generation launches. With Gen12 arriving in 2025, Gen11 EOL announcements would not be a surprise in the 2027 to 2028 window.

One important caveat: exact end-of-support dates differ by model and configuration, and HPE publishes them through individual Product Change Notifications rather than a single master list. If your environment includes regulated or high-availability workloads, verify your specific models against HPE's PCNs and plan your support strategy before the window closes.

Support Runway: OEM vs. Third-Party Maintenance 2026 2028 2030 2032+ Gen10 OEM support Ends ~Oct 2029* Gen10 Plus OEM support Ends ~2029 - 2030* TekShield TPM coverage Extends for years beyond OEM cutoff *Projected based on HPE's typical 5-year post-EOL support window. How TekShield Extends the Life of Your HPE Gen10 & Gen10 Plus Hardware

At ServerMonkey, we understand the immense value, performance, and longevity these systems deliver. The Gen10 Plus family in particular introduced major architecture jumps like 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable and AMD EPYC 7003 processors and PCIe Gen4 support, meaning these servers still have plenty of muscle for modern applications.

That's why we offer TekShield, our comprehensive third-party maintenance (TPM) and support solution tailored specifically for post-warranty and EOL equipment.

With TekShield hardware maintenance and support, your organization gets:

  • Ongoing Technical Support: Dedicated access to experienced engineers to troubleshoot issues.
  • Flexible SLAs: Next-business-day or on-site assistance options configured to fit your specific business uptime needs.
  • Reliable Parts Availability: Continued access to fully tested replacement parts and upgrades long after the OEM has cleared their shelves.
  • Massive Cost Savings: Substantial budget relief compared to costly OEM support renewals or forced, premature hardware refreshes.

TekShield is the ideal strategy for organizations that want to maximize the ROI of their existing HPE infrastructure while avoiding the high capital expenditure of rushing into Gen11 or Gen12 deployments before they need to.
