The Dell PowerEdge R760xs is a purpose-built 2U, dual-socket server engineered specifically for scale-optimized compute and right-sized storage configurations. Tailored for popular IT applications like virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), software-defined storage (SDS), and mid-density virtual machines, it restricts processor limits to a maximum of 32 cores per socket for 4th Gen Intel Xeon processors or 28 cores per socket for 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors. By capping these processor thermal envelopes, the system is uniquely designed to operate at peak efficiency within existing, standard air-cooled environments, eliminating the need for expensive liquid cooling retrofits or infrastructure modification.
To deliver balanced data throughput without excess cost, the R760xs scales up to 16 DDR5 RDIMMs across a 16-channel architecture, maintaining an efficient operating speed of 5200 MT/s. Expansion capability is tightly streamlined, offering up to 6 PCIe slots alongside a dedicated OCP 3.0 networking mezzanine and a standalone internal PERC slot, preventing storage cards from consuming general I/O space. Local storage tiers are highly adaptable but tightly bounded, accommodating either up to 12 x 3.5-inch enterprise drives for capacity or up to 16 x 2.5-inch drives with support for up to 8 low-latency NVMe SSDs to efficiently balance performance, footprint, and power consumption.
Safeguarding Your Data Assets.
Every PowerEdge server is built on a foundation of cyber-resilient architecture, embedding strict security measures into every phase of the hardware lifecycle from initial deployment to final decommissioning. Platform-level protections leverage Intel Total Memory Encryption (TME) and Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX) to guarantee data confidentiality and isolate sensitive workloads directly within the silicon layer. Operations are securely anchored from power-on by a cryptographically trusted secure boot process and an unalterable hardware root of trust.
System firmware integrity is strictly enforced via digitally signed packages that eliminate the risk of unauthorized modifications or malware tampering. Proactive defensive tools like real-time drift detection and iDRAC9 system lockdown instantly intercept and report unauthorized configuration changes. Finally, when the system is ready to be retired or repurposed, the native System Erase utility allows administrators to safely, completely, and rapidly purge all data from internal storage media and system memory to ensure total privacy.
